Silly's Restaurant: Fun for Everyone…Portland, ME

Silly's Restaurant
Portland, Maine

Silly's Restaurant is a local favorite of mine. It's quaint, enjoyable and perfect for vegans and non-vegans alike. Check out their website for more information and read my 180 Restaurant Review below for details on food and atmosphere.

My best friend Ali and I decided it was time to "catch-up" more than just a walk to lunch and headed to Silly's on a Wednesday night for some good food and laughter.

Silly’s can get quite squished at times. A good squished, not over whelming squished – but cozy. This time it was close to closing on a weeknight so people started to filter out by 9:30pm. The wait staff is always friendly, spunky, and nicely attentive. Service is also fast, regardless if every seat house in place is filled (which isn't uncommon).

The thing I love about Silly’s, other than the name and the quirkiness, is that there are so many unique vegan options. Pizzas wraps, salads, burritos, nachos, cake, hummus plates, and more! AND to make it even easier for us "veggies", all of the vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options are noted on the menu (found in your handy-dandy Silly’s lunchbox with a deck of playing cards and the milkshake list - located on your table.)

APPETIZERS: Ali and I stuck with our usual, Sweet Potato Fries! They’ve become a must have every time we go. They’re marked as vegetarian on the menu because the dish is served with home made honey mustard, but you can just keep that on the side.

ENTRÉE: I got the Mighty Avodighty Salad, a creamy avocado heaven with sprinkled BBQ tofu on a bed of spinach, lettuce, scallions, olives, and tomato and onions. Yum.

This time Ali got the Bio Diesel wrap. Vegetarian, not vegan because of the coleslaw, she says it’s delicious… I say, let’s move on.

DESSERT: The Vegan Triple Layer chocolate cake was calling to me. So I convinced Ali, and myself, that we could share it. Apparently I never learned what the term "share" actually means and ate the two bottom layers myself! It’s delicious served with coffee and soy milk.

Silly’s is located on Washington Avenue in Portland, Maine. Which is a little out of the way if you’re stationed in the Old Port. However, since everything in Portland really only takes a max of 10 minutes to get to by car, it’s worth getting directions. Or using your Garmin. Or your iPhone. If you're reading this I assume you're tech savvy - you can find a way!

There is street parking only and since it’s a tiny place you need to be on the lookout for the Silly’s sign that marks the door. The menu is very reasonably priced, especially for the family, where anyone can find something they like or for the first date when you’re not sure “Uhh did she say vegan or vegetarian or gluten-meat-eater-fat-footer-free?!?!”

Or I would say "Awesomely Fabulous." The truth is, if you're looking for a comfy, low-key place to eat with good food in Portland, Maine - find your way to Silly's. With mounds of vegan options, it's sure to put a smile on your face.

  3. Kuddos to a great review! They deserve it!

  4. Wow, I am always impressed when I see a state I wouldn't expect to have vegan restaurants. Good job!

  5. Thanks for all the great feedback on the post! Yes, Maine might be a surprise - to know we have such worthwhile vegan food.

  6. Plus their bumper sticker photos are super fun!
